Frequently Asked Question For Mother
Do I really have to breastfeed for a whole year?
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends nursing for 12 months, exclusively for the first six. “But a mom should stop breastfeeding if she realizes that she’s no longer enjoying it, even though it has myriad benefits,” says Erica Brody, M.D., director of pediatric breastfeeding medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, in New York City. On the other hand, there’s no need to wean as soon as your child turns 1, if prolonged breastfeeding makes you both happy.
What about bathing my baby?
Always use only mild soap and lukewarm water, and don’t bathe your baby too often because it will dry out your baby’s skin. Be sure and clean the folds of skin carefully, because it’s a common place for bacteria to hide.
How do I get my baby to sleep through the night?
First of all, it’s necessary to understand there are some things you can’t control about your baby’s sleeping habits. It’s normal for babies to wake in the night because they need to eat every few hours to sustain their life. As they gain weight, he or she will naturally go longer between feedings, there are some things you can do that will encourage better sleep at night In many cases, it helps to bathe your child to calm them down before bedtime, and it may also help to rock them, read, and feed him or her shortly before bed.
When does my baby start teething and what should I do to help him?
A few babies begin teething at 3 to 4 months of age, but most don't start until about 6 to 7 months of age. Most babies are not troubled by the teething process, but some are irritable, eat poorly, and have trouble sleeping when teeth begin to arrive. If your baby seems uncomfortable, you may want to give him acetaminophen or apply a mild topical anesthetic to the gums. Teething toys and biscuits are also helpful. Children are susceptible to other infections when teeth first break through the gums. It is important for us to know if they have a fever
When does my baby start eating solid food?
At around 6 months old (but not before 4 months), your little one will start to show signs that they’re ready to introduce solids to their diet. It’s worth remembering that children develop at different stages, so it’s better to look for specific signs than use age as a guide. When starting with solids, opt for iron-rich foods like pureed red meat or chicken. You could also puree lentils, or offer iron-fortified baby cereals. You should try and incorporate a wide variety of foods in your baby’s diet, so include things like pureed carrots, pumpkin, banana, avocado and yoghurt. Children like bland food, so they don’t need any added sugar or salt.
